Built on top of SLAM, our approach to content management starts with SharePoint and only gets better from there.
SLAM! SharePoint List Association Manager
SharePoint is NOT a relational database. In fact, the accepted wisdom is if you need relational tables, don’t use SharePoint at all. This can be a painful realization if your firm has either standardized on SharePoint as your platform, or is considering using SharePoint due to its rich feature set. That’s why AW Systems has developed and released an open source tool called SLAM! (SharePoint List Association Manager), which is available now at http://slam.codeplex.com/.
Below is a video demonstrating the power of SLAM, how to begin using SLAM and one of our first add-ons to SLAM: list hierarchy (making SharePoint lists hierarchical!).
In essence, SLAM allows you to define relationships (one to one, one to many, many to many) between SharePoint lists (or Content Types) and then leverage those relationships in web-parts or custom field types using familiar and straight forward SQL queries. This can dramatically reduce development time (since developers can leverage the power of out-of-the-box SharePoint) as well as making previously impossible tasks possible within SharePoint.
If you are interested in SLAM and how it could help your business (or even just interested in SharePoint development in general), please let us know by emailing us at slam@awsystems.com.
If you are a developer, be sure to visit our CodePlex project: http://slam.codeplex.com/. We also have a set of API Documentation available here.
